Suggested steps to introduce Drones into your school
Step One - Understanding Drone Learning Pathways
Begin a "Drone Journey" from being a beginner to becoming a proficient Chief Pilot, as we navigate our students through designed learning pathways.
Step Two - Drone School Pathways available
Our school pathways provide each school with their own portal, granting access to a wide range of "Drone Courses" starting from the basic Tello STEM programs (which are available as free resources) all the way to obtaining an AVI30419 certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot). These programs have been carefully designed to be delivered within the school environment, with the added benefit of being mentored by the school itself.
Step three - Drone Student Career Pathways
In late 2020, a report was released by "Deloitte" in reference to the "Economic Benefit Analysis of Drones In Australia", This report was requested by the Australian Government, Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications. We have provided a list of 30 Drone Career Pathways
Step four - Knowing the Drone Rules (in school)
Important factors to know are: Do you have land owners permission? (The principal can approve this). Do you have safety procedures in place to cover off on Public Liability Insurance? Have you a good understand on "Flying Drones at school" from a CASA prospective? Do you have a teacher with an ARN (Aviation reference Number)
Step five - Flying in the The Excluded Category
The Excluded category is best to start and is acceptable for in schools. This course is applicable to remote pilots operating in the excluded category sub-2kg operations within Australia. This course is delivered over one to two terms. We provide all the learning and assessment material, which is a mixture of class workbooks, online materials, flight logbooks and assessment material.
Step Six - What Drones to use
To kickstart your drone journey, we highly recommend the widely acclaimed DJI Brand, a popular choice among drone enthusiasts worldwide. Opt for a drone weighing under 2kg, and you won't need a RePL (Drone License). For indoor flying, start with the Tello model, while the Mini is perfect for Junior school. As for senior school, the Mavic range is an ideal choice. Check out the link provided to explore the extensive selection of drones featured in our programs.
Step seven - Which Drone Training Course
The two main courses for "In School" delivery starts with the AVIY0028 which is a qualification based around the "Excluded Category". This course is applicable to remote pilots operating in the excluded category sub-2kg operations within Australia. The main course is at a "Certificate III level", we provide all the learning and assessment material via the LMS. The school and or the parent has complete visibility. 6 QCE Points available.
Step eight - Research Online Learning Resources
State and territory curriculum, assessment and certification authorities are responsible for determining how the Australian Curriculum content and achievement standards are to be integrated into their courses. All our courses comply with ASQA rules and have been audited and approved to meet the ASQA standards. In Qld the QCAA allow 6 QCE points for VET Drone courses such as AVI30419 Certificate III in Aviation (remote pilot). Some other online resources examples below.
